I fell off the running bandwagon — so much so that I never even created the post to tell you the wagon I was going to ride. Er, run. Basically, I had this plan to Run 1,000 miles in 2013. I even made a cute little badge to post on the site that would show where I was in the progress.
And then I had a trip to Africa. And then I had a trip to Thailand. And somewhere in the middle Florida forgot what it was like to be warm and I’ve wanted to do nothing but wear yoga pants and curl up with my fluffy dog, a fuzzy blanket, and a good book.
But then tonight I read this little eBook 12 Minutes to Change Your Day (took less than 12 minutes to read!) and I was inspired to implement the 12 minute rule. Basically, you can do anything for 12 minutes. (p.s. the eBook is FREE until April 1!!)
So, I put on my running shoes, clicked on the iPhone timer, and ran for 12 minutes. It wasn’t fast. It wasn’t pretty. But you know what? I logged another mile onto the old 1,000 mile countdown.
And then I set another 12 minute timer to get this post written and out the door.
So that’s my new plan. I want to post regularly. Really! I do! I’ve just been having the hardest time mentally getting motivated to write. Or run. Or do anything but try keep warm. But I’m hoping that the freedom (and focus!) of just 12 minutes a day will create a habit and pattern.
Question: For me, writing and running are things I both love to do and put off doing. It makes no sense. Do you have something like that? You can leave a comment by clicking here.
